SSI Career Resource Center
The SSI Career Resource Center (CRC) is a community service center providing basic IT and job search skills coaching to local adults. Working in collaboration with the City of Manassas Park's Community Center, the CRC's friendly bi-lingual staff provide one-on-one IT skills coaching, resume preparation services, English language training, free internet access, and use of a state of the industry IT training lab.
History of the CRC
In February 2014, Storage Strategies, Inc. (SSI) moved its headquarters from Springfield, VA to the City of Manassas Park and established the SSI Community Resource Center, a workforce development program providing services to residents of Manassas Park.
SSI chose Manassas Park because half of the City resides in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone). The HUBZone Program, established by the Small Business Reauthorization Act of 1997, helps small businesses located in economically challenged communities gain access to federal contracting opportunities while promoting economic development in these areas. Economic development is achieved through increased employment opportunities, stimulating capital investment, and increased tax revenues.
The HUBZone program provides SSI with the opportunity to significantly contribute to the local economy and enhance the company's business development efforts. SSI was certified as a HUBZone Small Business by the Small Business Administration (SBA) in July of 2014. In addition to providing basic information technology skills and job searching training to Manassas Park residents, the CRC works in collaboration with Manassas Park High School offering jobs at the CRC to students involved in the high school's Work Study Program. This unique education program allows students to work part-time during their junior or senior year earning credit for a class while gaining commercial work experience and earning income. Students provide assistance to Manassas Park residents and while concurently working on industry IT certifications. SSI's CRC serves as a stepping stone local students to gain skills, industry certifications, and practical work experience making them marketable on future SSI contracts with the Federal government or with other employers.
