SSI is seeking an Electrical Engineer with Aircraft Electrical Power System experience to join our team. This position is in the Legacy Electrical Power Systems Branch, of the Power and Energy Division, of the Propulsion and Power Engineering Department, Research and Engineering Group of the Naval Air Systems Command. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Defines electrical power system and interface requirements for weapon systems. Responsible for portions of the weapon system and electrical power system detail specifications pertaining to assigned system areas and their interface.
Evaluates design proposals received in response to formal competition, as well as unsolicited, for weapon systems, and weapons’ electrical power systems including the interface thereof, and submits formal evaluations and recommendations to the customer.
Manages and participates in the engineering effort involved in the research, design, development, test, and evaluation and production engineering of electrical power systems, as assigned, as well as the correction of service problems with Fleet systems. Manages engineering and test programs for assigned Fleet electrical power systems and equipment to ensure the highest level of readiness.
Evaluates ECPs (Engineering Change Proposals) for engineering, program, and financial practicality; as well as has the authority to recommend or to disapprove ECPs.
Prepares official correspondence and written briefings for management review.
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Math and 8+ years of professional experience of progressively more responsible work; or an advanced degree (MS) with 6+ years of professional experience.
Electrical Power Systems experience preferably related to aircraft and aircraft related systems however, electrical power experience in other fields such as utilities and transportation (e.g. locomotive, automotive and shipboard) is acceptable.
Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of engineering that enable service as an expert in design, development, test, evaluation and application of electrical power systems under the severe altitude, attitude, temperature, vibration, and shock conditions associated with airborne applications.
Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
Ability to execute and handle technically challenging aircraft electrical power system programs.
Ability to perform trade-offs between cost and capability.
Ability to develop, prepare, and present technical advice to higher program authority and to Integrated Program Team members.
